Pfeiffer Preview Day

Even though Pfeiffer's Misenheimer campus was clouded by a thick layer of rain and fog, the campus was alive and moving as Prospective students and their parents came for our Pfeiffer Preview Day. The students and their familes came to our chapel for a meet and greet session with our Admission Councilor's and Student Ambassadors. And after munching on some pastries and drinking some hot coffee, Preview Day officially started. Different faculty from different departments on campus came and talked to the students and parents about their programs. Rebecca McQueen, Director of Residence Life, came and spoke about Student Life, Ashley Oliphant, Director of our Francis Center, talked about ways that current students are involved with Non-profit organizations as volunteers and our own Police Chief McGinnis talked about campus safety.

Students were then separated by their degree choices and taken to different classrooms on campus to meet and learn more about their degree from actual professors. The students seemed really interested and it was a good opportunity for them to ask any questions they might have had. When we finally got the students back in the chapel, the parents and students were separated. Students went into one room for a student panel to talk about student life and the parents were in another room to talk about any concerns or questions about the campus. Students seemed to like getting away from the parents for a moment to ask more personal questions about student life and our ambassadors were more than happy to answer.

After a long tiring morning, the weary and famished families went to our cafeteria for a much deserved hot meal. They served pizza, omelets, pork, mashed potatoes, greens, sandwiches and much more. Our excellent cafeteria staff made sure that each person was comfortable and had what they wanted.

Once everyone was finished eating, they were sent out on campus with a Student Ambassador to take a tour and luckily the rain held off for the tours. Even though it was a dreary, cold and rainy day the student ambassadors were alive, enthusiastic and ready to help families have the best experience they can!

Scholarship Day

It was a beautiful and chilly morning on November 19th for our annual Scholarship Day. About 40 of our accepted students qualified for some of our many academic Scholarships and arrived for interviews with our faculty, staff and alumni. The students arrived in the morning and mingled with each other and some of our Student Ambassadors while they waited. Students and parents were greeted by our Vice President for Enrollment Management, Michael Poll, then were shown a presentation of Student Life by the Dean of Students Russ Sharples. From there, they were off for their interviews. Some of the students seemed really nervous and it was fun for a few of our Senior Ambassadors to remember being in their shoes years ago. As Ambassadors, we tried to lighten the mood while they waited their turn by asking them questions and joking around with them. Apparently, a popular question during the interviews was "If you could eat lunch with 3 people, who would they be and why?" The students seemed to get a kick out of that.
Once their interviews were done, Ambassadors split them up into different groups and they were off for their tours. This was a fantastic chance for the students and parents to see Pfeiffer's campus and ask questions about campus life. It was so cold and some girls had heels on with skirts; poor girls. The parents seemed interested in the academics while the students seemed more interested in the residence halls and the clubs/organizations available. Maybe they will meet a good medium and not become too overwhelmed with one aspect of campus life. Once their tour was over, the parents and students were dismissed for a delicious lunch in our cafeteria.
When there is word of prospective students coming to campus, our cafeteria steps it up and serves amazing food. There was pork, sweet potatoes, different desserts, sandwiches, pizza and tons of other things. Students seemed to really enjoy the college atmosphere and getting the chance to see where they will be spending most of there college days.

Falcon Preview Day 2011

Every year Pfeiffer Admissions holds their annual Falcon Preview Day for new incoming students. This was a very exciting time for students because they got the opportunity to meet their Admissions councilor, their academic advisor, professors and current Pfeiffer students. Incoming students were also able to meet with the Student Ambassadors in a one-on-one session and ask questions about student life. They seemed very interested in the student discounts that some businesses offer and they were especially excited about the Bojangles discount. Parents even had their own one-on-one sessions to talk about financial aid and campus safety. It was very exciting to get to meet parents and students and tell them why Pfeiffer is such a wonderful and unique place!

Parents and students round up on a tour to hear about the fascinating history of the buildings on campus.

Parents and students round up around our Clock Tower, to hear about the fascinating history of Pfeiffer by our Campus Historian Jonathan Huchinson.

Ambassadors gave tours through all of Pfeiffer's facilities including our work out center, The Knapp Health and Fitness Center. Students were able to look into classrooms, eat lunch in the cafeteria and looks inside residence halls.
Though the morning started out dreary, the sun came out by the end of the day it was a beautiful autumn afternoon!
